Festivals of India: Embracing Traditions and Cultures in 2023

As of my last update in September 2021, here is a list of some major Indian festivals celebrated across the country. Please note that some festival dates might vary each year as they are based on the lunar calendar. Makar Sankranti/Pongal (January) - Harvest festival celebrated in various parts of India.

Republic Day (January 26) - National holiday commemorating the adoption of the Indian Constitution.

Maha Shivaratri (February/March) - Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Holi (March) - Festival of colors, celebrated with enthusiasm across India.

Ram Navami (April) - Celebration of Lord Rama's birthday.

Hanuman Jayanti (April) - Commemorates the birth of Lord Hanuman.

Eid al-Fitr (Date varies based on the Islamic lunar calendar) - Celebrated by Muslims marking the end of Ramadan.

Raksha Bandhan (August) - Celebration of the bond between brothers and sisters.

Independence Day (August 15) - National holiday commemorating India's independence from British rule.

Janmashtami (August/September) - Celebration of Lord Krishna's birth.

Eid al-Adha (Date varies based on the Islamic lunar calendar) - Festival of sacrifice, celebrated by Muslims.

Guru Nanak Jayanti (November) - Birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru.

Christmas (December 25) - Celebrated by Christians across India.

This is not an exhaustive list, and there are many other regional and local festivals celebrated throughout India. Each region and community might have its own unique set of festivals.
